Moonshot Films has partnered with Crystal City Entertainment to acquire the screen rights to Lisa Jewell’s multi-million selling psychological thriller Then She Was Gone.
The feature adaptation will be produced by Moonshot Films alongside Jonathan Rubenstein and Ari Pinchot of Crystal City Entertainment (The Ides of March, Lee Daniels’ The Butler).
Catherine Steadman (Our Fault: London, Something in the Water) has boarded the project to write the screenplay.
Both a New York Times and Sunday Times Bestseller, Then She Was Gone is Lisa Jewell’s most widely read and beloved thrillers, holding a place in the New York Times Top 20 for an astonishing 90 weeks.
The novel follows Laurel Mack, a mother still living with the devastating disappearance of her teenage daughter, Ellie. Years later, as Laurel begins to move forward, she meets a charming man whose young daughter bears an unsettling resemblance to the child she lost. Dark, emotional and compulsively readable, Then She Was Gone combines an irresistible mystery with a deeply human story about grief, obsession, memory and the long shadow of loss.
The project brings together a compelling creative team. Lisa Jewell is one of the UK’s most successful contemporary thriller writers, having sold over 15 million copies of her books to date. Catherine Steadman, who will adapt the novel for the screen, is a screenwriter, actor and New York Times bestselling author in her own right.
For Moonshot Films, Then She Was Gone represents an exciting addition to our expanding slate of distinctive, commercially-focused IP. The novel’s combination of emotional depth, suspense and audience recognition makes it a powerful proposition for the screen, and we are thrilled to be working with Crystal City Entertainment and Catherine Steadman to bring Lisa Jewell’s unforgettable story to life.
We look forward to sharing more news as the project develops.
